Otonye's C'wealth medal inspires home mates

Nigerian Iworima Otonye's silver medal showcase at the just- concluded Comonwealth Games in marvelous City of Melbourne, Australia is generating inspirationalfeelings back home.

 

Speaking to nigeriasports.com on a phone chat, chief coach of Rivers State Athletics Association, Silas Ogwoma sounded optimistic of snatching more medals atforth coming National Sports Festival as a result of impressive outing of one of their products, Otonye. "If I predict five medals for my team this time around, it might not be too far from reality.

This is because Otonye, who won silver medal for Nigeria at the Commonwealth was our product,"he declared. Coach Ogwoma informed our reporter that the Rivers State athletics team currently in closed camping at University of Port Harcourt arena will be storming Abeokuta for the national sports fiesta, tagged Gateway Games with an 18-man squad to contest in all categories of track events.

"Preparations are in full swing with a few of my athletes sustaining minor injuries. Barring serious injuries, we should better the record of last the edition when we won two gold medals at Abuja," said the sprints boss.

Yea is good to do good. Especially it could change your reputation. I am happy for Otonye. But we should try and be fully responcible for any glory we are taken.

Well done rivers state, you can claim her victory now but when she needed u most u deserted her. I hope our sports council will learn to encourage and support athletes nothing the situation.Otonye remain blessed
