Erinle bankroll referee clinic

As part of the activities to enhance the growth of the game of basketball in zone-one albeit Nigeria, the first vice president of the Nigeria basketball federation and zone-one representative on the NBBF board Dr. Adesegun Erinle recently sponsored a clinic/workshop for young referees in the zone.

An elated Dr. Erinle who was overwhelm during the last day of the three-day clinic said he is challenged to do more in term of raising the standard of the game in the zone.

Over forty-two would-be referees attended the course conducted by Nigeria foremost FIBA graded referee, Babatunde Popoola at the liberty stadium, Ibadan.

The NBBF first vice president said the choice of Ibadan was made it is the zonal headquarter of the zone, which comprises of the six states in the southwest geopolitical zone of the country.

The former permanent secretary in the service of Ekiti state sports ministry says the clinic is one of his numerous programmes lined up for the zone.

Zonal coordinator of the federal ministry of sports and social development, peter nelson who was a former international basketball player, praised the effort of dr. Erinle at bringing the game home and assured him of his office support for the over all development of the game which brought him to limelight.

Nelson a contemporary of Hakeem ‘The Dream’ Olajuwon advised the new referees to be a good ambassador of the zone and should strived at all time to live up to expectation.

The zonal representative told the young referees especially those from Oyo state that they will be given the opportunity to showcase what they have learnt gained from the three days course when the Private Secondary School Basketball Championship dunks off in Ibadan with sixty schools participating.

The former Leventis Buffalo and Ebun Comets basketball clubs point guard says with all hands being on deck the game will attain an unprecedented height in Nigeria.

He, therefore, appealed to all states basketball association chairmen to rally round the zonal representative to move the game which has come to be regarded as the second most popular team sport in Nigeria today to greater height.

The instructor, Popoola said with the attendant and conduct of the young referees the sky is the limit for the slamming and dunking game in Nigeria.
