Gateway Games shun locally produced medals

This sorry fact was made known to nigeriasports.com in Lagos by a sportswears dealer, who had gone to Abeokuta, the seat of the host State, to present his medals to the Sports Commissioner in this regard.

According to the dealer, "I went to Abeokuta to show of what quality our medals are made, but only to be rudely shocked by the response that,  orders for medals for the Games, had already been placed. 

 "I was told that, locally produced medals would not meet the required standard of the Games.  I went to state and backed my claims up by showing the samples of the medals we had produced four yearss back, which still maintained and retained their qualities.

"But all that fell on deaf ears, as one of the officials of the Games, who works with the Sports Commissioner bluntly told me that, they had ordered medals from Germany. 

 "That was not even the issue, what actually pained me was the way and manner the official said with so much pride that, "we had ordered medals from Germany as if Nigeria is not a country that can produce medals with all our iron and steel industries.

The dealer, who is a Barrister narrated how he was not allowed to see the Commissioner, because he was not putting on suits and tie.  "That is the mentality of Nigerians even in this 21st century, we still adore the white skin as if its a kind of god.  What is all these talks about locally made goods and all that?" he lamented.
