Eyimba, Rangers move on in CAF race

Returnee Ajibade Omolade (55th goal), and David Tyakase's 88th home rally, pushed the Peoples Elephants of Aba, a step farther in the current CAF Cup soccer challenges last weekend in their Aba base. For the Rangers Flying Antelope of Enugu, it was Uche Akubuzor's 75th blast that fetched the boys a ticket to go on in the same race as Enyimba.

For both sides, it was a drab and goaless affair in the first stanza of the respective encounters; with the Enugu team playing with more hope, have secured a 2-2 draw two weeks back against the invading Police XI from Botswana.

Enyimba, having lost 0-1 to their Gabonese visitors, were desperate for a leader, but did not come until the fading minutes of the second stanza.  Fifty-six into the second half however a penalty kick was flushed-away by captain and goal-tender for the home boys, when after a spell of time, no one wanted to go for the kick, he went but hit the post.

For Alphonsus Dike, who was on bench for the Elephants, it was not "very impressive outing.  I want to blame the league, which would have served as tone-up matches for the team, but had not started for the pace of the encounter."

The visitors however blamed his boys' inability to put a goal behind their guests' keeper, to mother luck and nothing else.  By these results, both Nigerian teams have qualified for the next round of the competition.
