Efosa Eguakun: It was about time I left Dolphins

Former Dolphins of Port Harcourt mercurial right winger, Efosa Eguakun has finally spoken from his base in Sudan on why he left the 2005 CAF Confederation cup finalists.

Eguakun told nigeriasports.com via the telephone from Sudan that after spending five years with Dolphins he believed it was time to move on.

“I joined Dolphins in 2000 and in that time I won the FA cup twice and the league including getting the club to the final of the CAF coinfederation cup and if you ask me that was good enough for me to leave without looking back.”

“Besides, we play this game for money and there is no way Dolphins would have matched what was offered to me by El MArreikh so my decision could have only gone one way.”

Sudan first before Europe

Efosa who came third in the inter club African footballer of the year awards said he knows a lot of people expect him to be in Europe after such a successful time in Nigeria but he has to take his chances as they come.

“You know I am not God and I cannot tell what he has in stock for me. Yes I wanted to go to Europe but Sudan came first with a great offer so I grabbed it.”

“I have a three year deal here though I believe I will not last more than a season here. I’m hopeful I’ll make good my time here.”

Rues nation’s cup miss

After sterling performances for Dolphins, especially in 2005, Efosa Eguakun was gutted when the Eagles went to their Faro Cup of Nation’s camp without him.

Efosa told nigeriasports.com that he didn’t think he deserved to be left out of the camp or even the nation’s cup party in Egypt.

“You know that I should have been in the camp, but I was surprised I didn’t get an invitation so what do you want me to do?”

“I’ll just keep playing my game and expect that the National team selectors look my way soon especially now we are playing in the CAF Confederation cup.”

“I’m hoping that along the way we meet a Nigerian side so they see what I can do from close quarters.”
