Ikoyi Golf Captain thanks Vmobile, as GSK MD wins

The out going Captain of Ikoyi Club 1938 Golf Section, Alhaji Mohammed Damulak has expressed his appreciation to Vmobile and other corporate sponsors for supporting the Club’s activities during his tenure, which is just ending.

The Captain gave the commendation during his valedictory speech at a gala night to herald his exit as Captain and where prizes were given to winners of the Vmobile-sponsored Captain’s Day Golf tournament 2006.

The tournament was won by the Managing Director of GlaxoSmithKline, Linus Gitahi. Different categories where prizes were competed for and won included: Men’s NET, Men’s Gross, Ladies’ NET, Ladies’ GROSS, Veteran’s NET, and Past Captain’s prize. Others are Longest Drive, Men and Ladies, Nearest to the Pin, and Guests’ NET.

“The success story of the past one year would not have been possible without the support of our esteemed sponsors who have stood by me all through the year and those that supported the Captain’ Day Golf tournament. To you all, I say a big thank you.” Leading the list of 17 corporate sponsors is Vmobile Nigeria and Sheraton Hotel. Others include GSK, Virgin Atlantic, Ericsson, TotalFinaElf etc.

Leading nine others by 67 points in the men’s NET score is Linus Gitahi, who beat the nearest contender to him, Patrick Taggert with 70 points, to emerge winner of the tournament.  In the Men’s GROSS category, T. Davies won on a count back score of 80 points to beat Tim Ayonmike and Fasekun Olatunde, who also had 80 points as runner-up and third place positions respectively.

To emerge winner of the Ladies NET, Susan Walker recorded 71 points, while P. Pinotsis emerged winner of the Ladies GROSS category with 85 points. In the Veteran’s category, DR. E. Onyia posted 73 NET score above H. Agbogoroma’s 76 to emerge winner, while Architect Coker scored 74 NET score to win the Past Captain prize.

The prize for Longest Drive Holes 1 and 18 in Men’s categories went to Tom Mbu and Olatunde Fasekun respectively, while P. Pinotsis won the Longest Drive in Ladies category. Nearest to the Pin prizes for Holes 6 and 12 were won by Lekan Biobaku and Efosa Ojomo, with the Ladies category going to Andrea Hoffmann. In the Guest category, the Captain of IBB Golf Club Abuja, J.K. Gadzama emerged winner with 75 NET score.

The Captain’s Day Golf tournament is a tradition of the Golf section of the Club to mark the official exit of the Captain’s tenure in office.
