.Ball hitters tennis serves off at Ikoyi Club

Tennis enthusiasts at Ikoyi Club 1938 will be treated to one week of tennis extravaganza courtesy of some members of the club and their counterparts from the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club.

The lovers of the sport will have the opportunity to see actions in the second edition of Ball Hitters Masters tournament that will feature eight young players each from both club from Monday January 30 to February Saturday 4.

Spokesman of the competition, Mr. Kunle Sewoniku told us that players such as Etim Ekanem, the defending champion, Monday Igbinovia, Henry Atseye, Sheriff Balogun and Kehinde Alade would feature in the championship.

He disclosed that the tournament was being sponsored by four friends from the two clubs whose names are Ebisan Rewane, Dere Otubu, Ehi Eguabor and Chris Obosi.

Sewoniku explained that the aim of the championship was to fill the gap between the senior and the junior players adding that the middle class players needed their own tournament to grow.

The tourney he said would be played in a round robbin with the two best players qualifying for the quarter final stage.

The winner he disclosed would smile home with the sum of N40,000 while the first runner up would get N20,000. He added that other round loosers would go home with some consolation prize monies.

Sewoniku disclosed that plans were in the pipeline to include other quadrangular clubs such as Apapa Club and Lagos country club in the next edition.

The tournament he said would be played between 9 am and 4 pm each day while the final comes up on 4 pm on Saturday.
