Glo-CAF Awards: Ladipo Commends CAF
President-General of the Nigeria Football Supporters Club, Dr. Rafiu Ladipo has commended the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for postponing the Glo-CAF Awards earlier scheduled to hold on January 9.
Ladipo, who is set to lead the vociferous band of Supporters to Egypt for the 2006 African Cup of Nations, remarked that in deciding to postpone the event, CAF and the sponsor, Globacom Limited acknowledged the importance of players to the success of the ceremonies. “It is the presence of the players that makes the ceremony glamorous, so it would not have made good sense to go ahead without them. I am happy with the decision because it will also allow the players concentrate on not only playing for their countries but also improving their mental capacity to make the Nations Cup exciting”, Ladipo stated. He observed that though the event is Pan-Africa, it is important for Nigeria to make a very good impression in its inaugural hosting. In the words of the Supporters Club boss, “I know the Glo-CAF Awards is a continental if not global event, but Nigeria is hosting the ceremony for the first time and it will be very good for us to have all the important stars here to make it the best ever hosted”. He also commended Globacom for its commitment to the development of football on the continent and in Nigeria, noting that the company has demonstrated in many ways that it is poised to take African football to new heights. “I am optimistic that Globacom will add value to the organisation of the awards. It has the capacity to do so given what the company has committed to Nigerian football through its sponsorship of the National teams, the Supporters Club, the Nigerian Premier League and some Premier League teams”, Ladipo further added. . 0
