NFA leadership: Factions wait for FIFA
As the battle between the Sports Ministry and Galadima over who owns the land as far as the lordship over Nigerian football is concerned, rages on, nigeriasports.com reports that, both parties are in a coffin-quiet condition of who gets the favouurable verdict when the case is mentioned in Zurich next week.
We gathered that, while the Sports Ministry's congress was on in Abuja last Friday, Dr. Amos Adamu, FIFA's observer to the Galadima-conducted Kano elections was taking 'cover' somewhere in Lagos; thus keeping both parties guessing as to his whereabout. However, nigeriasports.com can inform you that, Dr. Adama, who now looks like the most cherished bride, is having one of the rolicking periods of his career. According to our reliable sources both in Abuja and Lagos, the Ogbomosho man is expected to have delivered his report to the global soccer governors in their Switzerland head offices. We gathered further that, Adamu, weary of going against the will of the government, which the sports ministry represents on the one hand, and the Galadima-led faction of self-imposed leadership on the other, is now in a dilemma. "The man is confused as to which side or camp to lean on. He does not want to offend the government and at the sametimem, he is weary of losing his position in FIFA for which is seeking a second term...so this is dicey for him. FIFA definitely would want to lean or accept Adamu's report as final; but the question now is which camp does Adamu belong? Looking at the situation critically, both parties have their faults. Ibrahim Galadima held his elections in Kano, after his State Governor had organized a reception banquet during which he made some thought-provoking speeches to the delegates. "The ministry wanted the elections held in Abuja. As it where, these are all cases of government interference. But again, can Galadima go it alone without the government? Can even FIFA do it alone without various national governments? Let us be reasonable," an analyst, who wants to be anonymous submitted. 0
