Search on for new NFA chairman

With 29 of the 37 State FA chairmen and secretaries, and 17 of the 20 Premier League teams signing the attendance register of the Extra Ordinary General Meeting of the Nigerai Football Association in Abuja on Friday, there was no doubt that members are rooting for a change of leadership in the body.

When representatives of the players union and the Nigeria Premier Football League are included, it brought to 79, the total number of delegates who came together to chart the way forward for the game. Ahmed Shuaibu Gara Gombe, chairman of the Gombe State Football Association, said stakeholders had gathered in the Congresss to give football a new face.

"Our duty here is serious and busuiness like. We want to give football a new face. We are searching for new people to come and move football forward. It is to show that what happened in Kano was a Kangaroo thing. The FA has not held Elections. We shall do so as soon as the electoral committee we have set up set out the guidelines which should outline who can apply and who can contest," Gombe said.

"Alhaji Galadima and his board did their best for the country but we think there best was not good enough and contrary to general interest," he said.
Of the 36 states and Abuja, only those from Taraba, Yobe, Ekiti, Abia, Sokoto, Katsina, Kano and Kaduna did not show up at the Congress. And of the 20 Premier League teams, those absent were from Pillars, Enyimba and Dolphin.
