Amun released, takes charge of FA

Arrested acting-Secretary-General of the Nigerian football house, Coach Fanny Amun finally inhaled the air of freedom in Abuja yesterday. The once upon a time handler of the nation's junior side, which won the gold medal of the FIFA Under-20 World Championship in Japan in 1993, was arrested shortly after the Annual General Meeting, AGM of the soccer house, in Makurdin, Benue State by men of the State Security.

While in the custody of security agents, Amun was replaced by the acting head of Administration/Finance of the Association, Mr. Osawaro.  Osawaro nigeriasports.com held fort until December 30, 2005 when the Secretariat of the soccer house was sealed by security agents on the orders of the ministry.

Reports reaching nigeriasports.com from Abuja had it that, Amun who is a civil servant, on his release from detention, has been directed by his employers, the sports ministry, to take charge of affairs at the FA pending the resolution of the stalement emanating from the December 29 2005 Kano chairmanship elections.

It would be recalled that Amun's arrest in Makurdi, soon after the AGM of the FA, was the second time he had been picked-up by security operatives. As at the time of this report, we have not been able to get any clue as to why he was arrested.
