Oladunjoye commends ITF
The Special Assistant on Grassroots Sports to the Governor in Lagos State, Prince Wale Oladunjoye (snr), has saluted the International Tennis Federation for the efforts it is making to further develop the sport in Nigeria and Africa.
Oladunjoye who was at the venue of the ongoing competition at the National Stadium on Wednesday told nigeriasports.com that if country' s sports administrator emulate their counterparts in ITF Nigeria would produce world class tennis players in no distant future. He said he was amazed that the ITF people could stick to their time table just a day after the new year holiday. He said he was at the venue as part of his assignment to spot talent from the grass roots and identify them for the state and the nation. Oladujoye commended the Nigerians who featured in the championship and urged them to put in more efforts to make them renowned players in the sport. "It is sad that after the Odizors and the Imoh we Nigeria has not been able to reproduce such players. I think that all stake holders must put all hands on deck to ensure we take our players to the heights expected," he said. The ITF junior which will end on Friday is featuring teenagers from sixteen countries. The countries are Benin, Burkina Faso, Liberia, Mali, Niger, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Togo, Mauritania, Nigeria, Gambia, Ghana, Cote 'Ivoire, Congo, Gabon and Austria. 0
