Nigeria will go pass Mali, Mozambique coach

The head coach of Mozambique at the ongoing Fiba Africa Women Championship taking place in Abuja, Nigeria, Nelson Isley have predicted that Mali would not poise a threat to Nigeria ambition at securing a semi final ticket when both side clash in their group-B game Monday.

Coach Isley whose side semi final ticket is already guaranteed no thanks to the 53-52 points lose of Angola to Congo DRC Saturday believed Nigeria has what it takes to be in the last four where they are likely to met Congo DRC on Tuesday.

The American-born basketball tactician was also of the opinion that if Nigeria get to the semi final nothing would stop the Mfon Udoka captained side from reaching the final and possibly retain the title they won two years ago at the expense of his team, Mozambique.

He, however, would not stick out his neck against the Senegalese in the semi-finals, according to him the Senegalese are more prepared this time as against what obtained two years ago when the Mozambican cut short their ambition in the semi-finals.

“If Nigeria gets to the semi-finals they'll surely make the finals. We don’t have much chance against Senegal in the semi-finals this time around because the Senegalese came prepared and determined, but I don’t see them beating Nigeria a second time if both side met in the final.”

“Nigeria can play man-man but Senegal seems to play a lot of zones so I expect the Nigerian bench to introduce a new style of defense to counter the Senegalese.”
