NFA CHAIRMANSHIP : Aspirants urged to show record

Unrepentant out-going chairman of the NFA, Alhaji Ibrahim Galadima has been adviced, in the interest of his future political ambition (if he has one), to honourably vacate the FA seat against his insistence on re-contesting in the elections coming up later this month. "It is not a do or die affair.

People were there before and they left, when the tide did not flow in their direction.  Today, such honourable Nigerians are still around and still have one or two wisdom words to share with Nigerians; and they listen,"Ekpenyong Ene-Ita, ex-Team Manager of the defunct NITEL FC of Lagos told  nigeriasports.com

Peeping through the long list of those, who are aspiring to head the Nigerian soccer house, Ekpenyong continued:  "The list is long...longer than any previous one if I am not mistaking.

But one thing outstanding about the list so far, is that, some of these men had been on the board of NFA.  While there, such men did not do anything tangible for the growth and development of the game.

"Perhaps, they forgot something in the house while there and they want to get back there, so as to pick-up such items.  Otherwise, it is disturbing to note that, these calibre of Nigerians should want to come back and rule our football.

If they are sure that, they did their very best while at the helm of affairs of our football, let them come out with their slates of achievements,"the astute soccer administrator challenged.

Continuing his argument, Ekpenyong, who managed the disbanded 'Cellular Boys' of Lagos to their first Lagos State FA Cup Final, went on:  "Why did they leave the FA if they were that good?  Nigerians that I know, would continue to clamour for their continued stay in office if, they were good.

So, as far as I am concerned, those who had been on the FA board before, and want to come back again, should stay away.  But if they strongly feel that their tenure in office, was fruitful for our football, they are free to show us such evidence."

For the out-going chairman, Ekpenyong whose NITEL team first had the taste of the National FA Cup finals under his management, simply said: "Nothing is as honourable as being honourable to the end.

He is a fine person as an individual, but as an NFA chairman, the truth cannot be rolled under the carpet and he knows it. It is even worse, when his Vice could come out and say such things about his board,"the blunt Efik man harmered home finally.
