NFA CHAIRMANSHIP RACE: Galadima on Odegbami's heel
As the D-Day for the NFA elections draws nearer, just as the clock ticks away the dawn of every day, indications are rife that, only two of the candidates, who have so far shown intentions to vie for the chairmanship position, would have a head-to-head collision.
The two rivals are, out-going chairman of the board of the FA, Alhaji Ibrahim Galadima and Chief Segun Patrick Odegbami. According to nigeriasports.com Abuja source, the ex-chairman, under whose leadership the nation could not secure a GERMANY 2006 berth from a Group every pundit had thought the nation would have the ticket on a platter of gold, would be banking on his northern kinsmen to wield the magic wand for him. Odegbami is said to be in "favourable contention for the post" because of his knowledge of the game, administration, rules and regulations, and constant interactions with stakeholders in and outside the country. "Galadima could use the unyielding solidarity of the north, who would vote en-bloc for him. But again, this might not be because, some of the representatives from that part of the country, are as aggrieved by the colourless achievements of the Galadima-led NFA board...most especially, the non-qualification of the Eagles for next year's World Cup. "There are some, who have taken some steps farther by arguing that, even at the lower cadre, such as the U-17, the country was also messed-up. The success of the Flying Eagles at the World Juniour World Cup, can in no way, be ascribed to Galadima's board because they did not care a hoot about the team during their preparatory period," we were informed. This, we gathered, could split the northern votes in favour of 'Mathematical' Odegbami, who could also suffer equal calamity from his South West folks, "but would not be as serious as Galadima's because the call for his exit is globally rendered clear and loud. The elections which have been fixed for the 28 of the month of December, have no fewer than six candidates, who have already shown their intentions to contest. They are; Ibrahim Galadima, Segun Odegbami, Sanni Lulu, Lumumba Adeh, Obienu, Ayansi, Ayo Bello and Nnachetta amongst others, who are still watching the coast to get clearer. 0
