It's final bye-bye to Taribo, Oliseh![]()
From responses recieved from Nigerians from all walks of life, a huge majority parried the idea of even toying with such thought, into the bins. From our survey, while 22.4% voted for the return of the players because according to them, "we need them", 16.94% wanted them to return into the Super Eagles' nest, because: "They should be given another chance." However, majority of Nigerians would not want to discuss such issues as having the duo back. According to the views of 26.78% of the total respondents, which was well over 10,000, both Oliseh and West should forget thinking of another call-up. "No, they have nothing to prove," they declared flatly. To cushion-up this group, another school of thought, which grossed 33.88%, did not hide their feelings as they chorussed pointedly: "They should go and allow younger players opportunities to showcase their talents. One of the respondents from London in the United Kingdom, Mr. Ideato, declared: "Let them (Taribo West and Sunday Oliseh), go and let younger players come on board. Nigerian game is not meant for the same group of people." It would be recalled that, in the heat of the nation's abortive search for a GERMANY 2006 World Cup ticket, some Nigerians aggitated for the invitation of both players. This was sequel to the nagging problem of a dependable central defence. So much was the clarion call from Nigerians that, Coach Austin Eguavoen had to extend an invitation to Taribo West, but the player could not meet the steam and pace of the present generation of both the game and the national team...and such privilege was withdrawn. So, it's bye-bye Taribo, good-bye Oliseh, till we meet again along the line perhaps, in another business other than footballing for the Super Eagles. 0
