'Eagles'll fly higher without Galadima-led Board'![]()
Speaking with nigeriasports.com in our National Stadium, Lagos offices, one time Team Manager of defunct NITEL FC, Lagos, Ekpenyong Ene-Ita explained that there was no way the election of a new board that will direct the affairs of our football, could jeopardized Super Eagles chances of an elite performance at the Nations Cup. According to him, the board is only the board. There is not constituted to coach the team. There are coaches for the team, who are saddled with the technical responsibilities of the Super Eagles. " Board members are no coaches and they are not expected to interfere in the technical handling of the national team. Handling the team is basically and absolutely the duties of the coaches and that is why the election of a new board cannot affect our performances at the games. "Africans, Nigerians in particular, like living and wanting to die on a position. By now, preparations for the Nations Cup would have gone above 70 per cent and the 30 per cent left would not even be completed by the board. " So, the talk about our logistics for the EGYPT 2006 Nations Cup are all aimed at perpetuating the out-going board in office until the games in Cairo in January," the versatile manager nailed home. Aside these reasons, the seasoned football administrator wondered why some Nigerians should even give this excuse to stay in office longer than their tenure, a second thought. "How on earth can some people give this a thought. Was it not under the Galadima-headed NFA that, the country failed to qualify for the GERMANY 2006 World Cup? "Was it also not under the board, that our Under-20 team went solo to Holland to stun the world; a feat they wanted to lay claim to but for the knowledge of Nigerians of what transpired between the FA and the coach of that team? "So, what magic do they want to bring up again that, Nigerians have not seen in the past four years that they have ruled our football? Are they saying that, they were not aware of an election soon after the expiration of their tenure on November 28 2005? "Emiko, they have no reason to remain there a second after their term had lapsed. We should be able to tell and face the truth at least once in our life time; if not all the time. "If they had done well, they would not have been looking for lies to tell to remain in office. Afterall, they are all Nigerians and they have the right to re-contest. So, let them leave and re-contest, if they are so convinced that they did well in their first tenure," Ekpenyong concluded sarcastically.
