League boss impressed with 2005 season

Nigerian Football LEague boss Oyuki Obaseki
With just one match to go in the Nigerian Premier League aside from clubs with outstanding games, Chairman of the Nigerian Football League board, NFL, Oyuki Obaseki has told nigeriasports.com that he is very impressed with the way the 2005 Nigerian Football league has gone.

Obaseki said he and his board did their best judging from the fact that they had little in terms of finances to work with.

“I think we have done very well. The way we started the league was great because I had people with me on the board who loved the game with their lives and gave their all to ensure the season went on smoothly.”

Obaseki however frowned at the fact that he had no funds to run the league.

“We were not given a kobo to run the league and so far we have spent close to one hundred and twenty million naira (about $857,000) and so I must give kudos to my generals.” Obaseki said.

“So far none of my committee members have received any sitting allowance and they are not complaining.”

Obaseki however attributed the controversial last few games of the season to the fact that the league board could no longer pay indemnities of match officials.

“Well, when we could no longer cope we had to resume to the system where home clubs indemnities of referees and you know that he who pays the piper dictates the tune so I was not surprised at the way games ended in the second round.”

He however assured that if given a second chance to return as boss of the league board he would change the face of the Nigerian league next season.
