Boxing Board faults' Casino Tournament’
Lovers and followers of professional boxing in the country have been warned against any plan to attend a boxing contest tagged ‘Special Casino Tournament’ to be held at the National Stadium, Lagos on November 27, 2005. They should better start thinking of something that is much more loftier and relaxing on that day.
This is because, according to a Press Release made available to nigeriasports.com and signed by the President of the Nigerian Boxing of Control (NBB of C), Prince Olaide Adeboye, the proposed bout is being packaged by a group “of illegal people parading themselves as members of the NBB of C.” “This illegal group of people parading themselves as NBB of C early in the year filed a motion stating that they have sacked the Nigerian Boxing of Control. But, the Lagos High Court with Honourable Justice F.O. Atilade sitting ruled on February 17, 2005 that status quo ante should be maintained until ruling is made on the motion on notice,” part of the press release read. According to the President of the Nigerian Boxing Board of Control, Prince Olaide Adeboye “the officials of the tournament are not known to us and not licensed by the NBB of C; as such they are not qualified to handle any professional boxing fight in Nigeria.” In the same release, the President further declared: “The Nigerian Boxing Board of Control hereby state that the purported tournament is illegal and not approved by the NBB of C. The premises of the National Stadium must not be used as venue for an illegal tournament.”
