We need change our attitude-Oshiekwu

Head Coach of Nigeria Athletics and former national hero, Anthony Oshiekwu has carpeted the attitude of officials towards sports management in the country. The United States based coach lamented and predict doom if the approach of officials and corporate individuals is not changed completely.

"It's so sad that we do not take good care of our athletes here unlike what is obtained in the US" he begins " We need make a good rapport exist between the coaches, Athletes and Officials, as issue of welfare should be taken seriously" Oshiekwu who is married to another hero, Falilat ogunkoya confided in this website. "It's so sad when issues of ticket refund and grants springs up like it did in Paris during the world championships, issues like that should be avoided to move our sports forward"

"I wonder what we are doing with all the major corporate bodies in the country where we can push for many of them to sponsor sports, like it's being done in other developed world, I travel abroad and other coaches always ask why we have dwindling fortunes in our performance, they believe we have talents but poor management" Oshiekwu says.

On a brighter light though, the brilliant coach believes there is a brighter day ahead." My wife and I personally take time out to encourage up coming athletes here in Nigeria and most especially in the US cos we know the future of our sport is bright and we hope to be a part of it,  If we change the way we run things now, and show concern to both athletes and coaches welfare, knowing that there is no smoke without fire and put athletes and their welfare first, the sky will be the limit" he concluded.
