Bussdor sink deeper in Professional ranks

Bussdor United Football club of Port Harcourt seem doomed for relegation back to the amateur ranks as they could not muster enough fighting spirit to kill off a well motivated Ocean Boys of Brass in a Professional League Division one fixture played in Port Harcourt over the weekend.

Free-flowing football, well-timed tackles, extreme passion and emotion as well as clinically taken goals were just some of the ingredients that characterized the match that ended 1-1.

The visitors, Ocean boys were the quicker of the two sides to settle into their strides.

Ogbonna Onouha, Peter Ogbuje and Ikemefuna Ezenwa all came close for the aquatic boys within the first 12 minutes.

With the visitors threatening to overwhelm their relegation threatened hosts, Coach Dominic Nwobodo of Bussdor made his first substitution of the day, after just 23 minutes. Out came the hitherto out-of-sorts looking Goodlive Chukwu for Robinson Apre, who went on to have a splendid afternoon on the right flank.

However, Ocean boys were unfortunate not to open the scoring on 27 minutes when Captain Blessing Okardi's sizzler flew marginally wide of Keeper Okemute Odah's top left hand corner. The boys from Bayelsa refused to give in and were duly rewarded when consistent pressure in the second period led to a foul on Blessing Okardi 25 yards away from the Bussdor goal. Mick Ebiede spectacularly curled the free kick past the stranded Odah to send the pockets of travelling fans wild.

Their lead did not last long as Bussdor responded with vigour. Apre's mazy run from the right was only curtailed at the opportuned moment by some desperate defending from the Ocean Boys back line. The ensuing corner, well taken by Osas Okoro was met by an even better back heel by Tony Inegbenoise which Musa Kundi was forced to stop with his hand. Penalty specialist, Labo Karibo promptly converted to bring scores to 1-1.

Shortly before the final whistle, another penalty was awarded to Bussdor but play was held up for several minutes as the Boys from Yenagoa fiercely protested the referee's decision. After all the fuss, Karibo's nerve cracked as he blasted the spot kick into the stands.

''This is the worst officiating I have ever witnessed in my life'' lamented Ngo Silva, Chairman of Ocean Boys.

''The NFA and NFL must show more professionalism over the appointment of match referee's because we discovered shortly before the kick-off of this game that the match referee and Oscar(The Bussdor President)are from the same village''he claimed.

''Maybe the next time we have a game, I'll get somebody from Nembe to officiate my game”, he concluded.

Oscar Igbokwe however laughed off the allegations. He said it was a good game which could have gone either way .

''That's football for you, you win some and lose some, however I am sure my boys will beat the drop at the end of the season ''concluded the Business mogul.
