NUJ-Media games Soccer in crucial stage

The soccer event of the maiden NUJ Media Games continues tomorrow, August 25, 2005 at the main bowl of the National Stadium, Surulere.In the semi-final matches scheduled after today’s quarterfinal games, the Daily Independent Newspapers has been drawn to play against the Champion Newspapers, while the News Agency of Nigeria would play against Lagos Information.

The soccer finals will be held on Friday during as part of events lined up for the closing ceremonies.All scheduled soccer matches would commence at 8.00am prompt. Teams are advised to arrive at the venue early enough in order to avoid being walked over, particularly now that event are at crucial stages.

Meanwhile in games involving visiting council, Ekiti Council would play against Oyo Council for a third place, while Ogun Council would meet Bayelsa in the finals.


Marathon Holds, on Friday, August 26

The quarter marathon event of the ongoing NUJ Media Games will hold on Friday, August 26, 2005 at 7.00am prompt.The starting point will be at Eric Moore/BodeThomas Junction, opposite the Union Bank Sports Ground.The race would pass through Nigerian Breweries Plc., though Costain Round about and terminate at the national Stadium.

The Nestle Foods Plc., are the official sponsors of the event. Only those certified medically fit will be allowed to take part in the event. All those with symptoms of ill-health should stay away.There will be cash awards for winners of the event.

The media games caught a big fish today. Top sports publisher, Paul Bassey, tried to overcome grief over loss of his wife, Comfort, who buried at the weekend,  to appear at the ongoing Games to be part of the Scrabble event.

He said he made it to the evnt as part of overcoming the loss of his wife. "I am here, because that is what she could have wished If she were alive. I am here in fond memory of her". 

Meanwhile basketball event will now hold on Thursday instead of Friday as earlier scheduled.
