No regrets over Pirates move- Onyekachi

Orlando Pirates Onyekachi Okonkwo
Former Enyimba of Aba midfielder, Onyekachi Okonkwo has told nigeriasports.com that he has no regrets whatsoever about moving to Orlando Pirates last year shortly after his second CAF Champions League win with the Aba based club.

Onyekachi said he decided to move to Pirates in other to showcase his talent outside Nigeria.

“Football is the same thing all over the world. It’s just that the conditions are better here than in Nigeria.” Okonkwo said.

“Here they have better organisation, better pitches and of course you will enjoy the game.”

“At the time I left Enyimba, I had won the league title twice and the African Super Cup and I really needed a new challenge apart from the fact that the conditions were going to be better at Pirates.”

He told nigeriasports.com that his next step will be Europe after his contract with Pirates is over.

He regretted the loss of the South African Premier League title on the last day of the season though adding that the only consolation was that they would play Champions League football next season.

“We had a wide lead at some stage in the league, I think up to fifteen points clear but we got careless and later started losing home and away and unfortunately lost the title on the last day to Kaiser Chiefs.

Onyekachi was one of the best legs we have here in Nigeria League b/4 he adventured to South Africa.Joining the Pirates is a good decision coz i know he will hook up with a big team in europe next year by the grace of GOD.But i advice him to avoid being distracted by women so as not to ruin his bloosoming career.
I will like the Super Eagle handlers to invite him to the senior national team.

Hi my guy Onyekachi, I don't expect any regret from you for moving to Orlando Pirates of South Africa. You paid all your dues while you were in the local League. Although I still miss some of those your deft touches on the ball which earned you the admiration of all and sundry.

My little pieces of advice is that you remain level headed so that sooner or later you'll come down and join your compatroits in the Super Eagles in the engine room(midfield) Also remember there's no short way to success safe hard work. We Africans strongly believe that hard work does not kill but laziness does.

Where you are presently may be good but still not the best for you because I know the abundant of talents that the almighty has deposited in you. Onyekachi we your teaming fans are still praying for your success and we will not relent. God will surely see you through in Jesus Name. AMEN.
