NBBF Challenge: How Union Bank emerges champion

After struggling to make it to the grand finale of the Nigeria Basketball Federation, NBBF organized Basketball Challenge, which ended last Wednesday in the nation’s capital, Abuja, Stallion boys as Union Bank basketball club of Lagos is known shoved aside tiredness from the rigour of the Atlantic conference to win the first ever Basketball Challenge competition on a clean slate at the Indoor hall of the Abuja national stadium.

The game against the Abuja Challenge runner-up Niger Potters basketball club of Minna proved a test case for the Kingsley Omoenu captained side as both teams were yet to lose a match before that Tuesday encounter which gave Union Bank the title with an 88-84 points decision of the hard fighting Potters, the team last game against former premier league champion and pre-final favorite, Ebun Comets basketball club of Lagos that many had thought would be an easy one for the champion proved to be a game that would be talked about for a longer time as both side gave a good account of themselves with good basketball display which makes the fans to ask for more. Comets simply refused to go down easily in a match that will have no effect on the over all standing as Union Bank had already confirmed king with its 88-84 win over Potters a day earlier while Pillars inability to beat Peaks in its last game means Comets had won the third spot for itself.

Union Bank, however won the hard fought encounter by 69-66 points to avenge for it Atlantic conference lose to the coach Ayo Bakare tutored side in Lagos.
