Potters leads, puts Pillars in difficult position

Vmobile Basketball Challenge: Abuja: Monday, August 08, 2005: As the National finals of Vmobile Basketball Challenge enters the third day, Kano Pillars’ chance of winning the championship dims with its loss to arch rival Niger Potters by 62 – 66 point in the 7th game played on Monday, August 8, 2005 at the Indoor Sports Hall of National Stadium, Abuja.

The first three quarters of the game saw Kano Pillars leading by 20, 30, and 50 points respectively against Potters’ 15, 27, and 45 points. But the forth quarter witnessed Potters coming round to netting in 21 points against Pillars’ 12 points. At the end of the game, Niger Potters had 66 points against Kano Pillars’ 62.

The win against Kano Pillars is the third win for Niger Potters, having defeated Ebun Comets by 55 – 47, and Plateau Peaks by 74 – 67 points in the 3rd and 5th games of the tournament. If the Minna boys are able to defeat Union Bank in their Tuesday match, then its chance of winning this year’s Vmobile Basketball Challenge will be brightened. So far the team and has accumulated 6 points from three matches, while Union Bank has 4 points from two matches. But Adamu Kuta, Coach of Niger Potters believes that it is only time that will determine the winner, when asked what his team’s chances are against Union Bank in the next match. “Our chance is very bright, but time will tell what the outcome of our match against Union Bank will be,” Kuta said.

Union Bank is also recording impressive performance in the tournament as the team already has four 4 points from two matches, having defeated Plateau Peaks 70 – 69 points and Kano Pillars 75 – 72 points in the first and 6th games respectively. As the team meets Niger Potters on Tuesday, the Indoor Sports Hall is expected to see basketball at its best.

In the 8th game also played on Tuesday, Ebun Comet recorded its first win when it defeated Plateau Peaks by 68 – 61 points. The team had earlier lost its matches to Niger Potters and Nigeria Customs in the 3rd and 4th games respectively. The last game of the day was between Nigeria Customs and Union Banks. On Tuesday, Niger Potters will take on Union Bank, while Kano Pillars will tackle Ebun Comets, and Nigeria Customs battle Plateau Peaks.
