Runsewe Commends NUJ On Media Games

NUJ Chairman Mrs O.Fadugba
The executive director of the National Orientation Agency, Otunba Segun Runsewe has commended the Lagos Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists for their initiative and plans towards organising the NUJ-Media Games.
In a telephone interview with press men over the weekend, the orientation boss hailed the games as "first of its kind and it couldn't have come at a better time when there is need for harmony and increase networking and understanding across all sectors of the Nigerian society."

Continuing, he said, "besides the inherent physical and mental benefits of sporting, the games presents a platform for journalists to get together and appreciate themselves as colleagues. It is a great thing to happen and it would inspire the public in several ways."

On the sponsorship of the games, Otunba Runsewe said he is pleased that some notable companies are involved. "I am informed that  such organizations such as; Guinness Nigeria and some State Governments have had talks with the NUJ and has assured them  of sponsorship support.  I want to say congratulations to the management of the company and to call on other players in the private sector to join in supporting the games as friends of the media. This is the time for them to prove that the relationship is not just one way."

On his part, Runsewe said besides personally attending the games and taking part in the veterans' category, he is sponsoring the production of two thousand T-shirts for the participants.

He also enjioned the owners and management of the various media houses to ensure that their workers participate meaningfully in the games.

In another development, former minister for solid minerals, Elder Odion Ugbesia has his goodwill to the Lagos NUJ on the games.

In a message delivered by one of his aides, Ugbesia said he identifies with the media games as a platform for strenghtening national unity and professional fellowship in the media sector.

"The minister also believes that since all work and no play makes jack a dull boy, it is good that the media could find some time to get a release from the stress of the job and return back to their desks refreshed for even better performance", the aide said.

Elder Ugbesia also donated an amount of money he would not want disclosed in support of the organisation of the games.
