NBBF Challenge - Customs dims Comets chance
Ebun Comets’ chance of winning the Nigeria Basketball Federation, NBBF Challenge suffers yet another set back today as the reigning Nigeria premier league champion lost its second straight game in the grand finale to Customs basketball club by 73-70 points.
Ebun Comets’ loss to Niger Potters in the last game on Saturday did not help Comets’ chances, as another loss would spell doom for the team. To remain in contention, Ebun Comet must win its remaining games against Plateau Peaks, Kano Pillars, and Union Bank. Commenting on the game after his team’s win, Scott Nnaji, Coach of Nigeria Customs said the dates chosen for the finals made things tedious for all the Atlantic Conference teams, as they had no time to rest before embarking on the final games. This, according to him, is affecting the performances of the teams. “You will notice that all the Atlantic Conference teams had problems in their first matches, this is due to lack of rest.” When asked how his team was able to come around to win Sunday’s match, having lost the previous day, Scott said he ensured that his players rested properly. Not dismissing Comets’ chance in the tournament, Scott said that the game is still open for any team to win. In other matches played on day one of the challenge, Plateau Peaks basketball club suffered a narrow defeat in the hands of Union Bank with 70 – 69 points . On Monday Pillars will take on Potters, while Peaks will confront Comets, Customs will square up against Union Banks in an all Atlantic conference encounter. Day One results Union Bank {70} Vs Plateau Peaks {69} Kano Pillars {61} Vs Nigeria Customs {58} Ebun Comets {47} Vs Niger Potters {55} 0
