Nigerian Boxing Board of Control in total control

Unable to understand why some group of Nigerians still parade themselves as the legally-approved professional boxing body in the country, even after the a court ruling in February, 2005 that the board should return to the "Status Quo," the bona-fide President of the Nigerian Boxing Board of Control, (NBB of C) Prince Olaide Adeboye yesterday in Lagos, took time off, to throw brighter lights on the issue.

In a chat with nigeriasports.com the nation's boxing administrative head, who also presides over the affairs of the game on the continent, explained:  "Apart from the board that was elected, you don't have a board that is selected.  I mean, you cannot be a President of a club to which you do not belong as a member.  If you do not belong to a club, how can you be its President?

"So, whoever wants to be a member of the Nigerian Boxing Board of Control, is free to do so...it belongs to all Nigerians.  It has never been a closed show and nobody, who has applied for membership had been blacked-out.  We welcome Issiah, we welcome everybody and when it is time for elections, let them contest...and if there is a vote of no confidence, you dissolve the board.

"Anybody who wants to contest, can contest.  What's there...we are all serving the country and not me; I am not important, what is important is Nigeria and Nigerian boxers. Who am I?" he asked in defence of his selfless service to his nation, which he said is more important than anybody. In response to the reported legal battle between a break-away faction and his board, Adeboye stated:

"Status Quo Ante. That was the ruling of the Judge given in February and that still, is the position today; and in common man's language, Status Quo Ante means you remain where you were before you started this problem.  So, we still remain the Nigerian Boxing Board of Control," the pugilists' leader hammered home emphatically.
