Ali plans big bash into Guinness Records Book

Bash with Barrister Keyamo
Nigeria's oldest fighting boxer, Bash Ali has begun preparations for his planned bid to become the world's oldest practitioner of the Noble Art of Self- Defence. Besides a daily routine of training in the National Stadium, Lagos Boxing Gymnasium and stepping-up his schedules, the old pugilist has embarked on a campaign aimed at fanning and soliciting support from some eminent Nigerians.

"I am not going it alone, though it would be Bash Ali alone in the fighting ring for the global bout, I want to ensure that, apart from God, some Nigerians would be with me both morally and spiritually.  It will be a great event and a great thing to happen to this great nation of ours'.  So, everybody should be with me and that is why I'm going to a few people, whose contributions could further sensitize other Nigerians of the importance of the crown in the history of the country," the Boxer explained.

The bout, which is an International Boxing Organization (IBO) affairs, would have the Nigerian granpa of the ring, Ali, bashing out to cruise into the Guinness Book of World Records as the oldest boxer to have stepped into the ring for a title fight at the age of 49.  According to Ali, the IBO World title bout has been billed to hold in Abuja, the Nigerian capital city.

He also disclosed during a chat with nigeriasports.com that, he would be pitched in the roped square against American Carl Tomson, who is the IBO World Cruiserweight Boxing Champion; and that November 25, 2005 has been set aside for the global boxing showdown in Nigeria.
