Comets get past Union Bank - pick final-6 ticket

Ebun Comets basketball club of Lagos on Sunday at the Indoor of the Lagos National Stadium gave a good account of themselves when it came from behind to post a 64-61 points victory over star-studded Union bank basketball club of Lagos in a game of wit. The encounter was a day-3 match dubbed the star-match-of-the-day as the Ayo Bakare tutored side falls back on experience of it backcourt game to shoot the Stallion boys into tight corner having lost it second game to Customs making it a 1-2 for the bankers. The first quarter had ended 12 points apiece with Union Bank coming on stronger in the second quarter thus opening up a five points lead of 18-13 points to bring half-time score to 30-25. The third quarter also ended in a tie of 18 points apiece with Union Bank having the upper hand from its second quarter five points advantage only to succumbed to the superior fire power of Ogo Odaudu, Baba Jibril, Rasheed Bello and Priwitt Gagara who take turn to shoot down the Gboyega Vidal inspired side with Akin Akintunde, Dennis Ebikoro and Malik Tella combining well up front to pick up valuable rebounds for the Comets in the fourth and decisive quarter which ended 21-13 points for a 64-61 points victory for the Comets for a 3-0. With Sunday victory over the Stallion boys Comets thus became the first team to book a final-6 ticket of the Atlantic conference and even if they drop their remaining two games to Islanders and Delta Force basketball clubs respectively their qualification is sealed.
