J/Tigers continues build up, beat AHIP 65-52
The preparation of the nation’s junior national team currently in camp in Zaria is taking a final shape as the players are beginning to create a perfect understanding amongst themselves which will make their opponents at the FIBA world fiesta to be green with envy.
The team which has played a couple of tune-up matches last Friday handed down a 65-52 defeat of Savannah conference premier league campaigner AHIP basketball club of Kano while it await further challenge from the senior team of Ahmadu Bello University, ABU, Zaria team MOnday and a Wednesday date against Savannah conference power house Niger Potters basketball club of Minna in what appears to be the toughest game the team will play considering the calibre of players on the roster of the Minna based team that finished second behind Comets basketball club in the 2003 premier league playoffs in Kano. There is every indication that the coaches Sanni Ahmed and Adeka Daudu tutored lads will play some warm up games against tough Atlantic conference club sides before it finally jets out to the United states of America for the Global game which would serve as the final build-up for the team ahead the first jump-ball on August 5 in Argentina. And in a bid to present a solid team that is capable of rattling the world at the FIBA U-21 World championship the coaching crew have cut down the number of players in camp as three players were sent home at the weekend. The three affected players are Michael Ogheneme of Islanders basketball club of Lagos, Anyebe Alexandra of Dodan Warriors basketball club and Femi Oloruntoba of Plateau Peaks basketball club of Jos. 0
