Omodiagbe Rule Germany
Darlington Omodiagbe of spvgg-unterhaching FC has been hailed as the most consistent and best all round performer in the German second division. The 25-year old Nigerian got all these rave reviews in authoritative German sports magazine "Kicker" when a list of foreign players were drawn up for assessment.
Omodiagbe who has had a splendid soccer career from Sharks of Port Harcourt and Nationale back home before pitching tent with Polish side LKS Lodz, remains the only player in the history of the German second division not to have missed any game of any magnitude. His former clubs also includes Hannover 96 and FC Gütersloh. Since joining spvgg-unterhaching from MSV Duisburg in year august 2002, the Warri born midfielder according to the magazine is yet to miss any minute of his side’s campaign and getting an absolute vote of MVP in 23-games to beat others to the title. Although, his team is currently placed 11in the eighteen-team table in the German 2 division, Darlington is hailed as the shining light in the side that has another Nigerian, Chris Okpala in their fold. " He’s absolutely brilliant and highly professional, he makes Unterhaching thick and read the game very well. A decent passer of the ball as well " the magazine was quoted as saying. …Sad tale Sadly, Darlington, 25, has had it tough in Germany all in the name of being patriotic to the Nigerian course, a case that littered his huge and well-decorated profile. The former Sharks midfielder confessed to nigeriasports.com that heeding a national call-up once hindered his progress and made him suffer from depression. " I went through the most difficult time of my life in year 2000 when I was the assistant captain of Hannover 96. I got an invitation to play for the U-23 despite my club asking me not to leave, I insisted I was going to play for Nigeria and left to join the team" he recounts " I got the rudest shock of my life when I sat for eighty-five minutes and only getting a paltry final five minutes of action against Angola " he explained Thinking the second leg in Luanda will be a different ball game " I was surprised that I was not played at all and that was the moment I knew I was being used and dumped" he told this site via telephone. He was thus relegated by Hannover and never got a look in thus pushing him to seek for playing time elsewhere in MVV Duisburg. " I had to leave, they were upset that I left a huge void when I traveled to Africa and from assistant captain I became a loner on the sub bench" It’s all gone with the wind now but I can never forget what being patriotic cost me and I can only do my best and keep living my life quietly than be troubled if Nigeria remembers me or not" he concluded.
