NPA wields the hammer! Sacks 16 players

Premier League side, Nigeria Ports Authority, NPA, will lay off about 16 out of the 40 players signed for the season, citing dwindling returns on the part of the players as reason. In the same vein, chief coach, Emmanuel Tetteh Okonkwo has regained full control of the team for the rest of the season courtesy of management decision who reasoned time was short to bring in a replacement for technical adviser, Belgian Maurice Cooreman after he quit half season and joined Insurance of Benin.

Team manager, Mike Idoko who let the Cat out of the bag, disclosed to .nigeriasports.com that six quality players are to be recruited to recharge the team full for the second half of the season. He gave reasons for the decision. “Management felt  we were not getting commensurate results with the input from some of the players after paying, especially after paying 60 % of their sign on fees and salaries up to date. The team had to be down- sized to a manageable size for greater productivity.”

“Secondly, after reviewing our performance for the first half of the season, it was decided by management that time was short to name a replacement for Maurice Cooreman, the technical adviser who quit. So, Coach Tetteh, who was in-charge for two seasons until this season, is to assume full control. We want better out put by NPA for the rest of the season. I can assure you that with plans we have,

NPA Seasiders will come off better in the second half of the league,” Idoko stated. Although hew maintained management was not happy with the output of the 16 players to be laid off, he however refused to give names saying it had to be played down until all obligations to them are settled and because also it is a matter of policy. ”We intend to recruit six new players to re-enforce the team. We believe coach Tetteh has what it takes to give NPA the lift we need. And we are sure that changes we made would carry us through to remain in the Premier League,” Idoko said.

I have not been reading any news about female footbal lately, what is really going on? Meanwhile, I must not fail to thank the organizers of this website for their good job in bringing football news for us to share and at the same time, I want to appeal that the female side should not be neglected because they are also part of the show as well. Remember that when you are telling the story of a lizard and you dont include the wall, that means the story is not completed. Please kindly let us know what is happening to the female league and the other major competitions. Thanks
