Fund crunch rubbishes Handsome Daughters

For the lack of adequate funding and coaches’ welfare, Handsome Daughters FC, a newly promoted female football side, would have continued to enjoy an unbeaten run, with which they started the season. The Uyo, Akwa Ibom-based team, which got promoted to the elite Female Football Premier League this season, had with, true to their name, promising notes; winning four of their seven games, loosing two and pulling a draw in only one.

The team, owned by Mr Handsome, had in their short spell in the league, defeated such good sides as; Delta Queens of Asaba, and Inneh Queens of Benin “but for the lack of fund and insensitivity of management to the welfare of both players and officials, we would have shocked FCT Queens to keep our first position on the Table.”

Coach Basil Obeta, who joined the team in April 2005 and brought them to this glorious height, lamented to nigeriasports.com:  “I am back to land.  Since I joined them in April, I have not been paid a single Naira.  We looked- away from this handicap and continued to do our best.  As I am talking with you now, we are occupying the second position of the league table.

“We were first until last week when I decided to call it quits with the team.  I have a family to cater for and I won’t be able to do that if I keep hoping for a better day to come; which has not come since April.

“Perhaps they think they can make it without me.  Some of the coaches of  the State were brought in to under-study me while I was there; but they forget that experience is not easy to acquire…I wish them the very best of lucks,” a deflated coach Obeta lamented.

Eboyi Queens in Womens Professional league

The wonderful lads of abakaliki has been a force one cannot quickly forget in this years women professional league, after beating FCT Queens of Abuja by an unbelievble score line of 4 goals to 1.They also gave the mighty Pelican Stars of Calabar a shocker in their last game by scoring first in the encounter which they later lost to the more experience side by 3 goals to 1.
It was really shocking to hear how this girls are been treated even though they are been sponsord by the Government.
The accomodation provided is one that a father will want his child back home.At ant time the team isout forn away mtch the players ar not given feeding allowance , but rather taken to a plce were they eat and the officials pay. This has been seen by the players as "monkey dey work baboon dey chop".
At any time a player gets a yellow card in match, the player is ben served a letter of quarry and forfeit some part of her monthly allowance which is meger. In the case of a red card, the player is given a letter of suspension and forfeit some percentage of her monthly allowance.
I want to say that it is good to adhere discipline in a team in order to suceed, but pt should not be done with rapatious motive.
This players need to be encourage and the management of the team should be called to order , because they should be counting thepr blessings now while they are still playing for their family to benefit. [quote]everyone says Amen to a good prayer.
