Big Cash at Mobil,NNPC Athletic Championship

The 16th Exxon-Mobil,NNPC track and field athletics championship holds at the National Stadium Abuja, between July7 and 9 2005 with good prize monies involved for the first time.Top officials of the sponsoring companies announced at a crowded press conference in Lagos Tuesday at the Chinese Plaza, Adeola Odeku, Victoria Island that over N4.6m would be up for grabs by top class athletics in the two classic event.

 Consultants to the Athletic Federation of Nigeria, (AFN) Messrs Rotimi Obajimi further disclosed that every event winners is entitled to one hundred thousand Naira."We have close forty six events(46) and winners in each category cart home N100,000.00. The amount would be shared by the three top athletes, N50,000 N30,000, N20,000. Besides that there is a One million Naira jackpot bonus for the overall best male and female athletes" Obajimi said excitingly.

He explained that performance evaluation for the jackpot bonus will be used will be based on the IAAF scoring table of athletes (2005 Edition) Obajimi clarified that to win the jackpot bonus the male and female athletes must win their championship events and their performance must be achieved in the finals. He further said that if more than one athlete wins and attains the performance standard set they would share the one million Naira jackpot.

AFN President Violet Odogwu-Nwajei in her own remarks said, she was happy over the Exxon-Mobil, NNPC boost to atheletes, while hoping that more corporate groups would emulate the efforts of the Oil gaints.

Congratulations to the new AFN board.This is the least we expected from those who have gone before them. Finally, our dear sport, athletics is risen from the dead. More grease to una elbow!!!

Do you know that as i am reading this news i have zero my mind to go all out the championship in other to win the overall, eventhuogh i dont know how to start in going about iut. Thats what to boost the mind of athletes can do. I am happy for the new board and exxon-Mobil,NNPC.
