Junior Tigers open Camp in Zaria
The National Under-21 basketballers entered into camp yesterday in what is programmed as the first phase camping as announced by the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF). The Chairman of the Federation Media Committee Tijjani Umar gave a list of 18 players who were expected to report to the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria for the camping.
The list has Ejike Ugboaja, Stanley Gumut, Dinma Odiakosa, Andy Igboanugo, Abubakar Usman and Femi Oloruntoba. There are also Buhari Mohammed, Cyril Awere, Solomon Alao, Blessing Udoh, Uchegbu Ikeobi and Mike Ogheneme. The other players are Alexander Anyebe, Kingsley Oguara, Ikechukwu Obidike, Ebikoro Eteimowei, Abdulwahab Mohammed and Solomon Alabi. The players coached by Squadron Leader Sani Ahmed (rtd) are billed to stay in Zaria until the first week of July when this phase rounds off. By the schedule of the NBBF, the next phase will hold via a training tournament with an invitational in Dallas, USA from the 25th of July to the 30th. Those short-listed from this phase are billed to form the bulk of the next stage. The bulk of the players invited to the Zaria camp are those who featured in the African qualifying tournament in Senegal. The Nigerian Junior Tigers won the African championship to pick Africa's sole slot for the world meet many of the players are reported to have hit the Zaria camp by midday yesterday. The FIBA Under-21 Men World Championship is billed to hold from August 4th to 13th in Cordoba, Argentina.
