Women Football LEague: FCT maintain fine form

Bayelsa Queens' IFeanyi Chiejine
FCT Queens Football Club on Saturday night at the Yenagoa Sports Complex survived ninety minutes of siege mounted on them by the Ifeanyi Chiejine led attack of Bayelsa Queens to come out unscathed in a week three match of the nigerian Professional Women Soccer League, nigeriasports.com can report.

Inspirational attacker, IFeanyi Chiejine (Left) showed no signs of pains despite the fact that she was rushed to play the match less than 8 days after surviving a near fatal motor accident on her way to Lagos after their week one win over Delta Queens.

“Well, I can still feel the pains and my arm is still a bit swollen, but I guess I just had to play,” Ifeanyi Chiejine told nigeriasports.com.

It was a Chiejine pass in the fifth minute that freed Rosemary “Afara” Okezie that won Bayelsa Queens a penalty after Rosemary was shoved in the box.

However, Captain, Gift Otuwe blasted the kick to the high heavens.

In the 31st minute, Chioma John set Ifeanyi Chiejine loose and she calmy shielded the ball away from her marker, Adanna NWaneri leading herself into the six yard box, but hit the side netting.

Three minutes later, Chiejine repaid the complement, laying on for Chioma John, but her rising shot ricocheted off the upright.

If Ifeanyi had a good first half, then the second half was totally hers, even though she picked up late in the half.

With thirteen minutes to go, Nwaneri desperately used her stomach to stop a Chiejin shot from going in, while two minutes later, it took the heroics of Betty Osayawe to stop the former Falcons midfielder from getting on the score sheet after the goalkeeper spilled a shot from Otuwe.

With just three minutes to go, the miss of the game came from Rosemary Okezie who blasted wide with no marker on her in the six yard box.

Chiejine had made a mazy run down the left, totally leaving all her markers for dead before locating an unmarked Okezie.

However, it was not all Bayelsa Queens as the visitors, FCT had their own fair of attacking moves in the game.

With coach, Mohammed Hussien playing a conservative 4-4-2 with the second attacker, Chinyere Okafor playing more like a central midfielder, Charity Ifenkoh was left all alone to battle Onome Ebi and Dorcas Ariba not giving her much room to operate.

“I did it that way because when I saw that the Bayelsa Queens Coach decided to play Chiejine and Afara wide on the wings, I thought it wise to put more players in the midfield to frustrate them and it worked,” Coach Mohammed Hussein told nigeriasports.com.

But that did not deter Ifenkoh who was able to break loose from her two markers in the 22nd minute but her pile driver was stopped by KeeperTochukwu Oluchi.

Ten minutes later she tried to go past her markers but was stopped by Ebi after successfully beating Ariba.

FCT Queens will have their defensive pair of Oluchi Ezeji and Adanna Nwaneri to thank as they cleared out all moving objects in their area, even flying leaves and eventually succeeded in getting a point out of the champions

In other games of the weekend, Delta Queens lost 1-2 to Handsome Daughters in Uyo.

Coach Peter Dedevbo of the former league champions told nigeriasports.com immediately after the game that the level of officiating was way below mediocre level.

“Unless the NFA and stake holders in female football start now to check the excesses of referees, the game may just die in Nigeria.” Peter Dedevbo said.

In Akure, it was Sunshine Stars winning 1-0 against Pelican stars of Calabar.

The result in Benin was Inneh Queens thrashing Oladimeji Tigress, 5-1, with Fausat Oyewole scoring five times.

In a late game played in LAfia on Sunday, Ogonna chukwudi’s two strikes gave Solid babes a 2-0 win over Ebonyi Queens.

It is a pity that Love Omo Branch has been forgotten in the history of Nigeria Football. She was dedicated to the course of promiting Nigeria female footballers and was talented too .Why is it that no body noticed her ? Nkiru Okosieme and others are all recognised what about her? Please let us all female football or football lovers give recognition to all the female footballers(Pioneers) of Nigeria and let their names go into the book of female footballers.
