Women Football LEague: Rivers Angels win at last

Rivers Angels Nkechi
Sinking Port Harcourt side, Rivers Angels FC had the inexperience of KAduna Queens to thank on Friday night for their 3-1 win, the first for them in the 2005 Women Professional League Campaign, nigeriasports.com can report.

Old war horse, Rita Nwadike, back to the side after a failed trip to the Peoples Republic of china, put the Port Harcourt side ahead in the 19th minute.

Thirteen minutes later Dolapo Obahor put the ball behind her own post after the Rivers Angels trio of Rita NWadike, Nkechi “Etim Esin” Amadi and Gloria Iroka put the Queens defence under intense pressure.

Ngozi Ebere made it three just before half time and it was Rose Emmanuel who pulled one back for Kaduna Queens through a penalty on the hour mark.

“My girls underrated Rivers Angels,” Chief Coach of Kaduna Queens, Shola Ibrahim told nigeriasports.com after the match.

“We performed well last week in Calabar against Pelican stars and at the same time we saw that Rivers Angels had lost home and away in the league so we thought they will be easy meat for us and we paid dearly for it,”

Ishola said his team will move on and prepare for their next match knowing that the league will not be easy with highly rated sides like Delta Queens, FCT Queens and Delta Queens.
