Ocean Boys' plot safety swim

''I am vey happy that I scored the winning goal which gave my club(Ocean Boys) the much needed victory. It's not easy and although it was a collective effort, but I still have thank God for using me to accomplish the victory for us. I must confess to you that my happiness holds no bounds.'' These were the words of Nkereuwem Bassey, who scored the winning goal for Ocean Boys in their mid-week encounter against Calabar Rovers.

Bassey, who was roaring like a hungry lion on the field of play, could not wait to devour his opponent, when the opportunity came knocking 15 minutes in the encounter in the Yenagoa Township Stadium, Bayelsa.

The visiting Calabar Rovers roved ... and fiercely too, all through the match duration of the encounter, but to no avail.  And as if the hosts knew that, the lone strike would turn out to be the loner, they held on strong to it and frustrated all efforts by their visitors to at least level up.

Speaking with nigeriasports.com in a telephone interview, Bassey said that this was beginning of a dawn for the the Ocean Boys; pledging to come up with more of such strikes when the professional league resumes.  ''This was an FA Cup encounter.  The league is, as you know, on break.  Our dream is to gain promotion to the elite Premier League...and we'll be there.  He also maintained that the team is working hard to lift the challenge cup trophy.

Meanwhile, the management of Ocean Boys Football Club has employed the services of Dike Okolie as the new Technical Adviser for the rest of the season especially now that, the team is participating in the Challenge Cup.  This move,we were told by the Public Relations Officer of the club, Koroyo Douglas, is to enhance the technical aspect of the side.

"We're working towards getting promoted to the elite side.  This is why we're not leaving any stone unturned to make sure that technical lapses are taken care of, since we are a new outfit, but with a big heart to conquer and prosper,'' Douglas said.
