Lagos City League gets one-week extension

The May 24 commencement date for the first Lagos City league will not materialized after all due to logistic reasons advanced by the technical/league committee of the Lagos State Basketball Association, LSBBA.

According to the league protem director, O’Brien Adoki the postponement became necessary in order to allow some of the state referees to take part in both the FIBA recycled/graded referee clinic in Luanda, Angola which gets underway Thursday and the FIBA-Africa qualifying clinic billed for the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja from May 26 through 29.

Two top referees from Lagos State Chris Obojememe and Kingsley Ojeaburu are already in Angola alongside other referees for the one week, while Salau Adesina is to take part in the Abuja FIBA-Africa qualifying clinic.

The other reason given for the slight change in date, according to Adoki is the need to allow teams make adequate preparation since most them have asked their players to go home due to the delay in the starting of the Nigeria Basketball Federation, NBBF, organized premier league.

The league director, however, assured all stakeholders of this beautiful game in the Centre of Excellence that the City League will commence as planned in the new date with the gymnasium of the Rowe Park Sports Centre, Yaba and the Nigerian Airfoce Ikeja Base gymnasium would serve as venues.

Meanwhile, teams are already responding to last Friday deadline for the submission of registration forms as the league committee is set to roll out fixtures for the league.
