Peter demolishes Martinez at Plaza

Peter punishes Martinez
Nigeria's Samuel Peter made it abundantly clear that he is the world's most promising heavyweight prospect at the weekend. nigeriasports.com learnt that Fighting in front of a capacity crowd inside one of the ballrooms in the Plaza Hotel Casino in Downtown Las Vegas, Peter, ‘the Nigeria Nightmare’ scorched opponent Gilbert Martinez within three rounds.

The fight was the main event of an ESPN2-televised Friday Night Fights event and Peter accomplished what most expected him to do; blow out his foe. While the first two rounds were uneventful, Peter finally figured out Martinez' tricky style and staggered him with a sneaky left hook. That punch forced Martinez to retreat, but the 250 lb. Peter was immediately all over him. A swarm of lethal punches followed and once a clubbing overhand right crashed onto the top of his head, the tough Martinez crumbled to the canvas. The American was able to struggle back up to his feet and allowed to continue, but the end was imminent. Peter rushed in for the kill like a lion hunting a wounded gazelle and it was over. Several stinging shots ensued and at the moment the badly dazed Martinez' corner tried throwing in the towel, referee Richard Steele was already jumping in to halt the contest. The official time of the stoppage came at 2:05 of the third round.

TEKE ORUH
In the walk-off bout of the evening, Nigeria's Teke Oruh scored a mildly entertaining third TKO over Jesus Shaun Tyrone Ross. Ross suffered a relatively nasty gash over his eye, forcing the fight to be stopped. The bout was halted officially at: 18 of the third round. Oruh is now 8-0-1 with 4 KOs.
