Esu slams critics

Coach Godfrey Esu, who was unjustly sacked by Shooting Stars FC of Ibadan earlier this season, has decided to pitch tent with Aba-based Gabros International FC for two reasons. According the sweat merchant, there are two basic factors amongst others motivating his move to Gabros. First, he counted, is to prove his critics at the Ibadan side wrong; and two, is to demonstrate his professional ingenuity.

Shortly before leaving Lagos for Nnewi in Anambra State to conclude his contractual arrangements with club owner, Esu confided in nigeriasports.com that discussion should take a positive step this week.

''I'm on my way to Nnewi to see the club owner of Gabros.  The man asked me over so as to conclude all arrangements regarding my appointment as the new handler of the premier league side. I'll get back to you as soon as we get things sorted out.

''Though money is the name of the game, I'm not going to Gabros for that alone. If anything, I'm basically bent on proving my critics at Shooting Stars wrong.  Shooting Stars were comfortably placed on the league table when they asked me out.

''Gabros as it were, were almost at the bottom of the same table. But, let me make bold to tell you right now, that when I'm through with Gabros FC, they would be better placed on the same table than Shooting Stars.

''This is no empty boast. I know what I can do and I'll do my very best to make this boast a reality.  By then, I would have succeeded in stamping a big shame on the faces of my critics in the Ibadan side.''

We recall that Coach Esu was sacked by the Ibadan side in the 7th week of the on-going Globacom Premier League.  Ironically, he was replaced by the former handler of Gabros FC, that was down, down, the table.

''It was a political gimmick to bring in somebody they could push around.  I'm not a soccer coach that can be pushed around by board members, who feel they know the job better than a coach.  If such people know that they know so much about coaching, I challenge them to get a contract to handle a side.

''The same coach contracted after my political ouster, attended the same interview for the Shooting Stars' job with me, and I was deemed better.  Man, I don't want to trade words with anybody.  The table will speak for itself at the close of the season.  Time will tell...'' Esu said as he drove off our premises and headed for Nnewi last Sunday morning.
