ABU wins Vmobile/WAUG championship

The 2nd edition of the basketball championship of the Vmobile/West Africa University Games, WAUG, has come and gone with host Institution, Ahmadu Bello University, ABU, Zaria, Nigeria crowned as winner at the expense of visiting UCAD of Dakar, Senegal by 109-77 points.

The Onoche Oguche captained side had last Friday defeated one of the emerging forces in college basketball in Nigeria hard fighting Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma 109-85 points in the first semi-finals to set up the stage for the finals against the Senegalese team who posted a 77-66 points victory over Bayero University, Kano in the second semi-finals.

In the third place game Ambrose Alli University decision not to return to Ekpoma empty handed payed off when they handed down a 82-64 points to the BUK team to run away with the third place price.

In the ladies final, University of Lagos defeated host ABU 69-57 points with Bola Solaja of the champion notching up 25 points while Lynda Aku of ABU recorded a personal best of 17 points.
