NAVY Academy lift 3rd Ilupeju Championship

The Nigerian Navy Basketball Academy, Ajegunle at the weekend became the winner of the third Ilupeju Youth Championship beating the Warriors Academy team-B 58-36 in the finals.

The Navy boys captain by enterprising guard Azuoma Dike who later emerged as the tournament Most Valuable Player (MVP) took the Warriors boys to the cleaner with superior display of basketball skill to the admiration of the large crowd that trooped the Ilupeju Sports Arena and Entertainment Leisure Center in Lagos winning three of the four quarters (11-08), (11-14), (20-09) and (16-05).

The Ajegunle boys who earlier in the day defeated the Warriors team-A by 44-35 points in the second semi-finals were at their best against a more organized Warriors Academy boys who had everything going for them but failed to live up to expectation when occasion demands while the Warriors Academy team-B defeated Redeemed Stars 27-25 points in the other semi-finals encounter.

Trophies and other form of prices were presented to the first three teams as the organizers promised that the tournament will continue to be held quarterly with the next one billed for late July or early August. Warriors Academy director, Peter Ahmedu, chief organizer of the four-day championship promised the kids that the next edition will be bigger and better in terms of organization and prices that would be won.
