Skyropes Club for Tug of War battle in Sweden

Skyropes Club of Nigeria would be the first participating African club at the Swedish Tug of War Open Championship scheduled for July 30, 2005 in Sweden. In an interview with nigeriasports.com, the coach of Sky Ropes Tug of War Sports Club,Lagos Jude Iduh that only 14 Pullers would be representing the at the Swedish Open.

According to him, "This is the first time a Nigerian team would be participating in this championship at the club level.  And it is not going to be easy but at least, it would serve as an eye-opener for the Pullers.  Besides, the championship would help them gain more experience and exposure in the sport.  Iduh stressed that Nigeria would vie for  honuors in two categories which are mixed pulling (560 male & female) and 640 ( male).

"I'm happy that Nigeria would be participating at the Swedish Open for the first time.   We could not participate at the last edition last year  due to logistics; adding that however,Sky Ropes would be the first clubside to represent the country in Tug of War.

He maintained that Tug of War is a sport that is fast growing in Nigeria andit is a for both the old young and old. pulled by both the young and the old. "Tug of War is fast growing in Nigeria and we've really worked hard to popularize the sport especially by taking it to schools which is at the grassroots.

Iduh, however enjoined corporate and individual sponsors to come to the aid of the sport since it's a sport enjoyed by all and sundry.  Hoped that the sport would feature in both the next Commonwealth and Olympic Games.  His optimism is hinged on the fact that the international body of Tug of War has almost met all the requirements needed for participation in Games of such magnitude.
