The Yak is back in business

Aiyegbeni
With few months to the start of the Africa Cup of Nations in Tunis, Nigeria and Portsmouth of England star,Yakubu Aiyegbeni has shot himself back to reckoning with his stunning brace against Nottingham Forest in the carling cup on wednesday.

Just when it looked as though, he had forgotten his scoring boots at the division one , with just a lone premiership strike before the game, the Former Julius Berger scoring machine answered critics undoubtedly with two of the best goals Pompey fans are likely to see all season.
As a half time substitute, Aiyegbeni sensationally got into a Patrick Berger's brilliant pass at the edge of forest's vital area to make hay, rifling an unstoppable left-foot shot past a bewildered Darren Ward just under the bar.

With the aid of Jason Roberts inside the Pompey half, the Edo born star made a brilliant run, a remininsce of Maradona's run against England in world cup '86, facing four defenders, the former Macaabi forward ran to the edge of the area and brilliantly sidestepping one of the back tracking men in red, unsettling Ward with the ball at his feet, and calmly placed his shot into the corner of the net.
Aiyegbeni 24, was quick to play down suggestions that it was a Monkey off my back performance (Goals drought) against a weak forest.

"Every player goes through a lean spell in front of goal and only needs a goal to erase that abruptly, and that I did againt a brave Nottingham today" he told nigeriasports.com website via phone.
"It may be the ideal begining to my target for the season and I can't wait to show Mr Harry that I am well in form contrary to some views here" he said

Dislodging speculations of an imminent row between club and country ahead of the nations cup in January Yak's explained " I don't think I have any problem with the coach or the management, the issue had been resolved and the two parties are aware what January means to us in Africa, what the people need understand that when issues like that occurs, it is to the detriments of the players involved"
