Eboigbe lights up tunnel's end for Super Eagles

Erstwhile Super Eagles defence ace, Sunday Eboigbe has sprayed some rays of hope for Nigeria at end of the tunnel in her bid to nick a Germany 2006 World Cup ticket. Eboigbe, who was one of the hardest defensive rocks the country has ever produced, speaking to nigeriasports.com from his native Benin-City home, said Nigeria with profile of players in the Eagles, there is no debating Nigeria’s qualification for the Africa Nations Cup and World Cup Finals in Egypt and Germany next year.

His conviction over Nigeria’s qualification notwithstanding, the towering defender whose regret is not playing for the country still haunts him, said that “only a careless mistake could rob the country a World Cup qualification ticket.”  As far as Eboigbe is concerned, other ambitious nations such as Angola, Zimbabwe, Rwanda and Gabon should look elsewhere something else to quench thirst; stressing that these nations are no threats to Nigeria’s qualification.

Super Eagles are expected to settle scores with their Rwandese counterparts in Kigali in May before flying back home to kit up for the Angolans’ challenge on June 5,2005.  The other opponents, the Zimbabweans could be taken as the Eagles’ last supper and a send on to GERMANY 2006.

In the same breath, Eboigbe predicted a victory for his home team, Benin Insurance after a doughty draw encounter with visitors, King Faisal of Ghana in an African Confederation Cup League first leg brawl in Benin City.

He argued that since football is no Mathematics, the Insurers could still turn the table against their hosts in Kumasi this weekend; adding that hosts, Faisal would be under intense pressure at home and a more articulate Insurance side take a psychological advantage of such situation.
