Ezeji chides self over ASEC performance

Victor Ezeji
Victor Ezeji of Dolphin FC is still at a loss on why he performed so poorly against ASEC Mimosas in last Sunday’s CAF Champions League third round match in Port Harcourt as he told nigeriasports.com.

“It was a terrible day for the team and I cannot tell why,” Ezeji said.

“We all played below mediocre level and it is difficult to point our finger at why that happened. In fact we were very lucky to win that game.”

On a personal note, Ezeji said he realized he could not raise his game on the match and was not disappointed he was taken off early in the second half.

“As a player we know we all have bad days, but Sunday must have been my worst in a very long time.”

Team Captain, Ahmed Abdulrahman insists his side had a difficult game against ASEC because the Ivorien’s did not underrate them like Hearts of Oak did.

“When we got into Africa we had no rating and that did not change though we beat the Champions of Equatorial Guinea(Renacimiento) three one on aggregate and by the time the Ghanaians realized we were no pushovers they had four goals behind them and it was over,” Ahmed Abdulrahman said.

But Ahmed feels the Ivoriens were wiser than the Ghanaian Champions who raised their game against Dolphins.
“ASEC never took us for granted unlike when Hearts came here and were a bit complacent and paid dearly but ASEC were set and expected strong opposition from us and that is why the game went that way.”

He however expressed optimism that Dolphins will be through to the group stages of the competition.

ThanK Heavens that he realized how poorly he played.Dolphins are gradually assuming the larger than life posture. They should watch it as the MIMOSAS could spoil show for a good club on a good day. Victory is still 90minutes away.

It takes a man of humility to admit his fault. Victor Ezeji is no doubt one of the best in the local league, and some times you are just not at your best. It happens some times and i pray you guys get your acts together and improve on your perfomance during the second leg. I wish you guys and other Nigerian representatives best of luck in the second leg .
