Enyimba survive Red Arrows

Two injury time goals each from Shakibu Atanda and Joetex Frimpong gives the Champions a 3-0 victory over the hard fighting Red Arrows of Zambia, nigeriasports.com can report.

Joetex Frimpong got the opener in the 17th minute through the penalty spot after a Zambian Defender handled the ball in the penalty area.

Enyimba after that had to wait for more than an hour before adding to Frimpong’s solitary strike.

Before that Eenyimba had fluffed a plethora of chances in the course of the game through the likes of Muri Ogunbuyi, Mutui Adegoke, Musa Aliyu, Prince Olomu and Emeka Akueme.

Emeka Akueme looked out of sorts and were duly replaced after the break by Atanda Shakibu.

Shakibu’s introduction brought some bite to the hitherto unimaginative frontline of Enyimba as the petit youngster tormented the Arrows defence.

First was his delightful one-two combination with Frimpong barely ten seconds after coming on and his terrific right foot volley which went inches wide on 59 minutes.

It wasn’t all enyimba though, as the Zambians also asked questions of the Enyimba backline anchored by Odeh Ogah and Yusuf Mohammed particularly in the 49th minute when Hanguyu Danny beat the offside trap but shot wide with Dele Aiyenugba displaced.

With the minutes ticking by, the Zambians grew in confidence settling down to their game and tightening the screw on Enyimba’s midfield.

Okey Emordi then took action, then took action, taking off Olomu for attack minded midfielder, Daniel Njoku who’s inclusion was to prove invaluable as his off the ball movement caused confusion in the Arrows box giving Shakibu space to sneak in and record Enyimba’s second goal two minutes into added time.

This goal demoralized the Zambians who had worked so hard to limit the Champions to just one goal and just one minute later, Frimpong sneaked behind the defence to get the third.

"We thank God for coming out victorious after the game," Okey Emordi said after the game.

Both sides started the game brilliantly with the home side going adopting the offensive tactics instantly.

The home side got their deserved goal when Endurance Idahor volleyed home Chinwo's corner kick in the 16th minute.

Same player added the second with three minutes left on the clock to the delight of handful fans at the liberation stadium in Port Harcourt.

Champion will always remain Champion. This is the crucial stage that you will see the Best of The Best in Africa Football. Enyimba should not rely on these 3 goals when they get to back Zambia or anywhere they are going to play the return leg.

Thanks.

That match remains the first major test for the arrivals in Enyimba. An adventurous Zambian side came with a moral lesson that it is not yet Uhuru for the Aba side. Methinks, Raji\Ogah combination need some more life. Remember, the North Africans haven't come yet. Emordi needs to work harder. Goodluck! The People's Elephant

This match here in Aba was a difficult one for Enyimba to win but i thank GOD that they later won after a spirited afforts by the strikers.I agree with Ben3cl above thaqt Coach Emordi should tighten his defence and attack even as they're going to face a turf challenge in the league stage.

When Enyimba was leading 1-0 with a minute to go ,I changed from 93.7 Rhythm F.M to Raypower F.M to listen to Dolphins match because i was angry because of the low scoreline in both games, angrily i switched off the radio only to listen to the news in the morning to hear better score lines of 3-0,2-0,that means it is not over until it's over. Please, recall some of your former players(disciplined ones) that were unable to secure clubs abroad because their experience is important while Dolphins should improve on their teamwork and think less of Gov.Odili's monetary rewards .Dolphins are greatly indebted to Gov.Odili because of what he has done for the team.Dolphins management and players should be prepared for psychological war both on and off the field in the return leg agasint ASEC in Abidjan, the should employ a psychologist to prepare the team for this battle. They should expect the worst from the Ivoriens,Olayinka,Fiberesima andAbdullahi should get lectures from Enyimba's Anyansi and Emordi on how the overcame the Tunisians .Anyansi and co.should not underrate the Zambians in the return, expect the worst also.I pray to watch an Enyimba vs Dolphins final in December.GOOD LUCK
