Rangers win, Insurance flop

Enugu Rangers took a comfortable first leg lead in their third round Confederation Cup tie against Cameroon's Union Douala with a 3-1 win at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium nigeriasports.com can report.

Captain Okey Odita got Rangers first goal from the spot in the 19th minute but the visitors levelled in the 38th minute through Placide Zolang.

John Nnam and Ugochukwu Okeke settled the game with a goal each in the 57th and 62nd minutes respectively.

Rangers had to play the last 15 minutes of the game with ten players when goal scorer John Nnam left the pitch injured after they had already made their maximum substitutions.

Union Douala also finished the game with 10 men as Captain Iyende Francis was sent off with two minutes left in the game.

After the game union Duoula officials blamed the referee for their loss. Leader of delegation Ndoki Mukete said the referee was the worst in the continent.

“The referee spoilt our game; I think he is the worst referee in the continent”

He could not however floor any of Rangers goals, “Rangers goals were perfect goals especially the last two goals, they were perfect goals” he said.

While fans were celebrating in Enugu, fans in Benin City went to bed early as their darling team Insurance failed them greatly.

Insurance could not insure a win against Ghanian side King Faisal Babes as the two sides drew 0-0 at the Samuel Ogbemudia stadium.
